Privacy policy
Effective September 23, 2026. This policy covers thelifecompass.app, published as Life Compass by Tai Kaish. It describes what we collect, what we do with it, and what we will never do with it.
The short version: we collect your email address if you give it to us, plus whatever you type into a quiz. We do not run analytics, we do not set cookies, we do not sell anything about you, and we do not send your answers to advertisers.
What we collect
What you give us. Your email address when you subscribe. If you finish a quiz, we also store your answers and the result you were shown, and — only where the quiz asks for them — a first name and a ZIP code. The first name is used to address an email. The ZIP is used because some of what we cover, particularly leave and insurance, is set at state level.
What our host records. Our hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs of requests to the site, which include IP addresses, timestamps and browser user-agent strings. That is standard operational logging used to keep the site running and to investigate abuse. We do not join it to your email address or your quiz answers.
What we do not collect. There is no analytics package on this site, no advertising pixel, and no third-party script of any kind. A page from Life Compass makes no requests to any other company — the fonts are served from our own domain for the same reason.
Cookies
We do not set cookies. Not for analytics, not for advertising, not for preferences. There is nothing here to accept or decline, which is why you have not been shown a banner.
Checklists remember which boxes you have ticked. That is stored in your own browser, on your own device, and is never sent to us — clearing your browser data clears it, and we have no copy.
Affiliate links are the exception. When you click a link to a provider, that provider and its affiliate network will typically set their own cookie to record that you arrived from us. That happens on their site under their policy, not ours. How we make money explains the arrangement.
Health information
One question in the baby readiness quiz asks whether anyone in your family has dealt with a serious illness. It is asked for one purpose: deciding which of the options at the end are worth showing you, and how to word them.
At present that answer is not stored at all. It is used to pick what you see on the screen in front of you, and then it is discarded. Washington and Nevada regulate the collection of health data of this kind, and we are not going to collect it until we can ask for consent properly. If that changes, this page changes first, and you will be asked before anything is kept.
Your pregnancy status, your due date and that answer are never included in anything sent to an advertising or analytics platform. There is nothing to opt out of here, because there is nothing running.
What we use it for
- Sending the newsletter you asked for, and the one email that confirms you asked for it.
- Showing you the result of a quiz you took, and choosing which options to put in front of you.
- Seeing which guides and quizzes people finish, so we know what to write next.
- Keeping the site up, and dealing with abuse of it.
What we never do
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising — the two things California law defines as a sale or share. There is no opt-out link on this site because there is nothing to opt out of.
- We do not send your email address, your quiz answers or your due date to any advertising platform.
- We do not pass your details to the companies we recommend. If you sign up with one, you do that yourself.
- We do not email you anything except the newsletter you confirmed.
Who else handles it
These companies process data on our behalf, under contract, and only to do the job named:
- Vercel — hosts the site and keeps standard server logs. (their privacy policy)
- Neon — stores the subscriber and quiz tables. (their privacy policy)
- Resend — delivers the newsletter and the confirmation email. (their privacy policy)
Beyond those, we disclose personal information only where the law requires it of us.
How long we keep it
Subscriber records are kept until you leave the list or ask us to delete them. If you unsubscribe, we keep your address on a suppressed record so that we can tell not to mail it again — say the word and we will delete that too. Quiz completions are kept while they are useful for deciding what to write, and are not tied to anything beyond the email address you gave, if you gave one.
Your rights
Wherever you live in the United States, we will do all of the following on request, without charging you and without treating you any differently afterwards:
- Tell you what we hold about you, and give you a copy.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete it.
- Confirm we have not sold or shared it, because we have not.
Some states — California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Washington and others — give these rights a formal name and a deadline. We are not going to make you work out which statute applies to you. Email hello@thelifecompass.app from the address you signed up with, say what you want, and we will do it within 45 days. If we cannot verify that the request is yours, we will say so rather than act on it.
To leave the newsletter, the fastest route is the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email we have sent you. It takes one click and does not ask you why.
Children
This site is written for adults making decisions about their families. It is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. If you believe a child has given us their details, email us and we will delete them.
Security
Data is held by the providers named above, encrypted in transit and at rest. We keep what we collect small, which is the most effective security measure available to a publication of this size. No system is perfect, and we will not pretend otherwise.
Changes
If this policy changes in substance, we will change the effective date at the top and say what changed. If the change affects data we already hold about you, we will email you before it takes effect.
