Terms of use
Effective September 23, 2026. These terms govern your use of thelifecompass.app, published as Life Compass by Tai Kaish. Using the site means you accept them. If you do not, please do not use it.
What Life Compass is
A publication. We write guides, checklists and quizzes about decisions that come with having a family — leave, insurance, paperwork, what to do in what order. Everything here is general information for a general audience.
What it is not
Nothing on this site is medical, legal, financial, tax or insurance advice, and reading it does not create a professional relationship of any kind between you and us. We are not your doctor, your midwife, your attorney, your accountant, your broker or your adviser, and we are not a substitute for any of them.
This matters more here than on most sites, because much of what we cover is genuinely situation-specific. Leave entitlements turn on your state, your employer and your length of service. Insurance turns on your health and your circumstances. Medical questions turn on you and your child. We deliberately do not publish symptom lists or tell you when to call a doctor — for that, use the guidance your own clinician has given you, or your discharge paperwork, and in an emergency call your local emergency number.
Accuracy
We check what we publish and cite our sources. We also get things wrong, and rules change — sometimes the week after we write about them. We make no guarantee that anything here is current, complete or right for you, and you should confirm anything that matters with the relevant provider, agency or professional before you act on it. If you spot an error, tell us and we will fix it.
Affiliate links
Some links to providers earn us a commission if you sign up. The price you pay is the same either way, and commission does not decide what we recommend or the order we recommend it in. How we make money sets out the arrangement and the rules we hold ourselves to. A recommendation is our opinion, not a warranty about the provider, and any deal you make is between you and them.
Using the site
You agree not to:
- Use the site for anything unlawful, or to harm or impersonate anyone.
- Interfere with the site, get around its security, or try to access parts of it that are not public.
- Scrape or bulk-download the content, whether by automated means or by hand, including to train a machine learning model.
- Republish our content as your own.
Our content, and yours
The writing, photography, design and code on this site belong to Life Compass by Tai Kaish, except where credited otherwise. You may read it, print it, and share links to it freely. You may quote a reasonable extract with attribution and a link. You may not republish it wholesale or use it commercially without our written permission.
If you send us feedback or a correction, we may act on it and publish the result without owing you anything for it. Do not send us anything you consider confidential.
The newsletter
Subscribing is double opt-in: we email you once to confirm, and send nothing further until you click the link. Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe, and we do not use your address for anything else. See the privacy policy.
Other sites
We link to providers, agencies and sources we think are useful. We do not control them, we are not responsible for them, and a link is not an endorsement of everything on the other end of it. Their terms and their privacy policies apply once you are there.
Disclaimer
The site and everything on it is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Life Compass by Tai Kaish will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of your use of the site or your reliance on anything published on it. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site will not exceed one hundred US dollars ($100).
Some states do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Indemnity
You agree to indemnify Life Compass by Tai Kaish against claims arising from your misuse of the site or your breach of these terms.
Changes
We may change these terms, and we may change or withdraw anything on the site. If we change these terms in substance we will update the effective date above. Continuing to use the site after that means you accept the change.
Contact
These terms are deliberately short. A page nobody can read is not a page anyone has agreed to, and we would rather you understood the two that matter: we are a publication, not your adviser, and the commission never changes the recommendation.
