Travel day with a baby checklist

This is the day-of and logistics list — documents, seats, security, and timing. For what goes in the bag, use travel with a baby packing. Confirm travel timing and any health precautions with your pediatrician — especially for young infants. Broader trip judgment: first trips with a baby.

Checklist

Documents and money

• Pack photo ID for adults plus insurance cards for baby and adults
• Save pediatrician phone number offline
• Save vaccine record photo/PDF if flying internationally or as required (if applicable)
• Download airline/hotel confirmation screenshots for offline access
• Pack a payment card plus small cash for tips, baggage, and unexpected pharmacy stops
• Carry a consent letter if one parent travels alone across borders (rules vary — verify) (if applicable)

Car and seat logistics

• Recheck rear-facing car seat install before departure
• Keep the day bag reachable in the cabin or car (not trunk-only)
• Confirm sleep surface waiting at destination (call hotel if unsure)
• Take a daylight photo of the car-seat install if a second adult may redo it later (if applicable)

Flight logistics (if applicable)

• Recheck airline infant policy (lap infant vs purchased seat) before leaving home
• Stage carrier liquids and feeding supplies for security screening
• Pack a change of clothes in carry-on for adult and baby
• Prepare gate-check tags if checking a stroller
• Allow extra buffer for security and boarding with infant gear

Day-of departure

• Feed baby shortly before leaving if that matches your usual pattern
• Share itinerary and pediatrician number with a non-traveling emergency contact
• Confirm who has house keys and pet/older-child coverage while you are gone (if applicable)
• Do a final door check: documents, charged phones, car seat click, destination address saved offline
• Put a realistic return buffer on the calendar for the first night home
